Although my husband and I love to be outdoors, we aren’t the outdoor sports “enthusiasts” that many people are! We like to hike, bike, and be one with nature, but on a simpler scale. For a long time, I felt like I shouldn’t go on the beautiful bike trails near the Ozark Mountains because I was too slow or in the way of the serious road and mountain bikers. Turns out that that was all in my head!
A few years ago my husband and I bought two bikes from Wal-Mart; no gears to change, no fancy wheels, just plain ole bikes. Every few days we would take our bikes to different neighborhoods in the area where we lived, and we really enjoyed the time together! Because I like higher-intensity workouts, this type of activity was actually really refreshing because it was calm, serene, and relaxing. It was also a free date night!
I encourage you to find something that you like to do outdoors and really let yourself go. Maybe it’s going on a light jog instead of a run, or swimming laps in a friend’s pool at your own pace. Sometimes I feel like we live in a world where everything and everyone is going as fast as they possibly can. Take some time to enjoy this beautiful earth!
